Internet Explorer, commonly abbreviated as IE, was a web browser developed by Microsoft and first released as part of the Windows 95 operating system in August 1995. Throughout its lifespan, it has undergone numerous updates and version changes, aiming to provide users with a seamless and secure browsing experience. Initially, Internet Explorer dominated the web browser market due to its tight integration with the Windows operating system, becoming the default browser for millions of computer users worldwide.

The browser's interface was designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, featuring a toolbar with various navigation buttons, address bar for entering URLs, and tabs for easy multitasking. As the internet evolved, so did Internet Explorer, incorporating new technologies and features such as ActiveX, JavaScript support, and enhanced security protocols to protect users from malicious content.

However, in the mid-2000s, Internet Explorer began to face competition from other browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome, which offered faster performance, more modern interfaces, and superior security features. Despite Microsoft's efforts to keep Internet Explorer relevant through continuous updates, its market share gradually declined.

In 2015, Microsoft introduced a new browser, Microsoft Edge, as part of its Windows 10 operating system. Edge was designed to replace Internet Explorer, offering a faster, more secure, and more modern browsing experience. Nevertheless, Internet Explorer remained available for compatibility purposes, particularly for older websites and web applications that were not yet compatible with Edge.

In recent years, Microsoft has further phased out Internet Explorer, encouraging users to switch to Microsoft Edge or other modern browsers. As of 2021, Internet Explorer is no longer supported for certain versions of Windows, marking the end of an era for the pioneering web browser that once dominated the online landscape.
